The contents of this self-extracting/self-installing archive are as follows:
1. MacCIM‚Ñ¢ (Version 2.4.3)
The “CompuServe Information Manager” application program file.
2. CIM Help
Includes context sensitive help and balloon help.
3. CIM Tools
Includes the resources that MacCIM needs to be able to decompress files.
4. CIM Data
Contains color icons and pictures which override the default black and white resources. Alternative CIM Data files are available which change the language of presentation of MacCIM‚Ñ¢. As of the date of this release, French is available. Check the MacCIM Support Forum for further details.
5. CCLs folder
Includes a set of script files which enable the Information Manager to make a connection and log on using a large number of packet switching networks. On System 7 and above, this folder is installed into a folder named “CompuServe” inside the Preferences Folder.
Notes:
A. New folder creation
A new folder will not be created under the following circumstances:
1) You select a folder already containing a MacCIM‚Ñ¢ application file
(In this case, the existing files/folders will be replaced with this updated version. Other files and folders in this folder, such as your Filing Cabinet, etc. will be preserved. The replaced files/folders will be moved to the trash if you're using System 7.)
2) You create a new folder for the installation
Otherwise:
A new folder named “CompuServe” will be created inside the folder and volume you select and the new installation will be placed inside.
B. Sharing the “CCLs” folder
On System 7 (and above) machines only, the “CCLs” folder is placed inside the “CompuServe” folder in the Preferences folder. This will allow other applications or system services which you may have installed or may install later to share the same CompuServe Connection Language script files. One such extension is the CompuServe Mail for PowerTalk™ messaging service access module gateway. This extension will allow you to send PowerTalk™ Mail from any PowerTalk™-savvy application to others using the CompuServe Mail™ system.
If you prefer not to have the “CCLs” folder in your System Preferences folder you may drag the “CCLs” folder out of the “CompuServe” folder there and place it in the same folder where you install MacCIM™. The scripts will be found and used by MacCIM but will not be able to be shared.
C. Modifying Connection Scripts
There are a few circumstances in which users may modify connection scripts for a special connection situation (such as using a modem pool where you need special commands to navigate to and access your modem). If you have modified scripts for an earlier version of MacCIM‚Ñ¢, you should make a backup copy before running this installation procedure. This procedure will replace your scripts and you could lose your modifications.
